Cindy McCain claims her dad made his fortune honestly

Cindy McCain recently complained about the Obama campaign saying that her husband was out of touch with ordinary Americans. In particular, she said that the beer the distributorship her father built, which is the source of much her family’s wealth, typifies the American Dream…

“My father had nothing. He and my mother sold everything they had to raise $10,000,” she said. “I’m proud of what my dad and my mother did and what they built and left me.”

What she should have said, if she wasn’t lying through her teeth:

“My father had nothing…except $10,000 in start-up capital obtained while in partnership with Kemper Marley, a guy that made his fortune in illegal liquor during Prohibition. (If he had been black, you might call my dad’s partner a former “drug dealer”, but as Chris Rock says, he was all white, so it was all right.) Also, this gentleman, good friend and business partner of my dad’s, was involved in illegal bookmaking activities at a racetrack my dad partially owned from 1952 through 1955, and had ties to organized crime, and was later suspected of being involved in the death via car bomb of a reporter than was investigating him. Yeah, he was a good guy, that Kemper Marley.

Oh, did I also mention my dad –you know, the guy that made his vast fortune honestly– my dad & his brother were prosecuted by the federal government in 1948 and convicted of multiple counts of falsifying liquor records in a conspiracy to conceal illegal distribution of whiskey against post-war rationing regulations? Or that he was again charged by federal prosecutors with falsifying liquor records in 1953?

And did I fail to mention that it was only in 1955, after all this had occurred, and my racetrack-owning gangster-befriending convicted-felon dad was already a fairly wealthy man in his own right, that he borrowed the 10 grand to buy out the beer distributorship, and was somehow given a state liquor license despite being a convicted felon? I guess he was just lucky.

Did you know all that? Of course you must have. The liberal media that so unfairly prosecutes me and my husband at every turn would have told you by now.”
